Fast bowler Amir receives visa and will join Pakistan in Dublin for 2 T20s
ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir received a visa to travel to Ireland but not in time to be available for the opening Twenty20 on Friday in Dublin.
Amir will join the team on Friday and be available for the two other T20s on Sunday and Tuesday, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Thursday.
The left-arm fast bowler came out of international retirement last month for the home series against New Zealand, drawn 2-2. Amir is eyeing a spot in the 15-man squad for next month’s T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States.
The three-match series in Dublin is also World Cup preparation. Both teams are in the same group alongside India, the U.S. and Canada.
Pakistan and Ireland have met in a T20 only once before, at the 2009 T20 World Cup, where Pakistan won by 39 runs.
Pakistan is also scheduled to play four T20s against England, and has delayed naming its final World Cup squad until May 22 when it plays the first T20 at Headingley.
